I loved this on original NES, but didn't really like the 3D remake, I finished it, but it just wasn't the exact same game I remembered... which is why we pick up remakes right? FFIV on DS was masterfully done, I can't quite place my finger on it but something in this game was wrong to me. The battle animation was superb though, and the music was excellent. I think the 3D bugged me over the two screens and the constantly shifting the camera.

Yeah, I liked the DQV remake a lot more then IV. can't wait for the remake for VI.
The 3D didn't bug me though, since I've played DQ VII on the PS1(Better then FFVII IMO)and it's sent up just like these remakes on the DS.
If you can get a chance to play DQ VII, I'd say go for it, might be my favorite DQ, plus time travel is always awesome.
I played the first 3 hours and put it down. Dragon Quest VIII was supremely addicting for me though. It bugged me in a PS1 game that they couldn't put in character animation in battles. I know DQ tries to be as traditional as an NES game, but the first person battle thing was starting to bug me despite playing most of them. So I didn't give VII a fair chance. I may need to borrow it off my friend. Axelgrinder has it.
It's an awesome game imo, the time travel works very well, though it does take awhile for it to get started.
Yeah, I had no clue about time travel... Just got sick of the same old thing from the series, which is why VIII blew me away.

Same problem with Breath of Fire as well... Not enough new.
How far did you get? Into the ruins, where you put broken tablets on pedestals? That's where the time travel comes in.
Let's see.... I played it when it first came out, which was years ago... My memory is short, I remember a green hero, kinda looked like Link, walked around a town by the ocean, went outside, climbed up a tower? I can't remember, it was near the start.

It was at that point that I put it down after doing a few fights. Realizing it was the same tired game it's always been and I was sick of it one a next gen console. (at the time.)
